Burrtec MRF Facility

Our polymer chemistry course (CHEM 217) toured the local recycling facility in Riverside to learn about what the books dont teach us. We got to see polymer sorting in action and learn about the many real world challenges that recycling faces at scale.

Nuview Bridge Early College High School

The Neary Group participated in a high school tour/demo with the Rovas Danelius and Mann Group to get students excited about chemistry! The tour consisted of a student led panel, mini lectures, and many demos led by students. Our lab introduced the importance of plastics to the students and demonstrated their synthesis via frontal ring opening metathesis polymerization (FROMP) to produce bullet-proof material. We also demonstrated how reactions can be carried out through multiple stimuli including light, heat, and force with a spiropyran infused PDMS mold. The future is bright with these next set of scientistic!
